Bio
Recognized as one of the rising clarinetists in the young generation, Chan Hin Man Jasmine is an active clarinetist in solo, chamber and orchestral music. She was raised in Hong Kong and is currently based in Vancouver.
She began her clarinet studies at the age of 7 under the tutelage of Mr. Cho Fong Leung, Mr. Fong Hiu Kai, Mr. Dominic Desautels, and Mr. Miles Haskins. Meanwhile, she began her piano studies at the age of 6. She gained her Master of Music in Orchestral Instrument Performance at the University of British Columbia, studying with Mr. Jose Franch-Ballester, following her graduation with the Advanced Certificate in Performance and the Bachelor of Music in Performance with Honours at the University of Toronto. Before coming to Canada, Jasmine was the principal clarinetist in the Hong Kong Festival Orchestra and the Hong Kong Youth Symphonic Orchestra. She has been the recipient of multiple scholarships during her studies, including the Mildred Johnson Scholarship in Music, Faculty of Arts Graduate Awards and International Tuition Award at the University of British Columbia, and the Music Alumni Association Scholarship, Howard F.Andrews Memorial Prize, Susan Cale Award, and the Norman & Hinda Tobias Memorial Scholarship at the University of Toronto.
Jasmine obtained her first clarinet performance diploma ATCL in 2013 and her LTCL with distinction in 2018. She gained her ABRSM Grade 8 in Piano in 2013 and Grade 8 in Music Theory with merit in 2017. Jasmine has won various awards, including prizes in clarinet and piano solo at Hong Kong Schools Music Festivals and the Heep Yunn Old Girls’ Association Cup for achievement in Music. Recently, she won the championship and first prize in the Winds Section (Category E) at the Amigdala International Music Competition (Hong Kong Region) in 2019, and the First Prize in the Winds Section (Section I U) at the 22nd Osaka International Music Competition (Hong Kong/Taiwan Round) in 2021. She has led the Heep Yunn Orchestra and Heep Yunn ensemble, resulting in Gold Medal in both categories – children’s orchestra age under 16 and ensemble with free instrumentation age under 21 at the 8th International Youth Music Festival 1, Bratislava when she was the chairlady of HYO.
Jasmine has performed with numerous orchestras, including the University of British Columbia Symphony Orchestra, the University of Toronto Symphony Orchestra and the Hong Kong Festival Orchestra. Being the principal clarinetist in the Metropolitan Youth Orchestra of Hong Kong, Jasmine performed Rossini’s Introduction, Theme & Variation with the orchestra as a solo clarinetist in 2016. She has played in masterclasses with well-known artists, including Nicolas Baldeyrou, Afendi Yusuf, Sophie Dervaux, Jonathan Gunn, Eric Abramovich, and James Campbell. Jasmine participated in the Professional Training Program at the 2021 Vancouver Symphony Orchestral Institute, the Domaine Forget International Festival in the summer of 2024 and the National Academy Orchestra of Canada in the summer of 2025.
Jasmine has been teaching clarinet, piano, and theory for over 7 years, with excellent results in students’ ABRSM and RCM examinations. She is passionate and patient while cultivating a supportive and enjoyable learning environment. She assesses students' individual strengths, weaknesses, developmental needs, and technical capabilities while focusing on providing comprehensive, high-quality instruction in music fundamentals, technique, musical interpretation and understanding. She enjoys teaching while witnessing the improvements and growth in students. Jasmine loves expressing herself through music, collaborating with other musicians, and sharing her music with audiences.
